Such an improvement over the previous generation of curve’s, but I always find something I don’t like.
Here’s the spec:
Design:
The new range of Blackberry Curve devices definitely have an improved look to them over the previous 8000 generation. Starting with the front it features the usual full qwerty keyboard along with the usual 5 buttons including the trackpad, on this one these buttons are all separate individual buttons. I like this over the ones built into the screen as they tend to be better with dust as well as feeling more secure.

Going around the sides we have on the left a lanyard port, micro usb and a function button. On the right we have the usual two volume buttons but on this model it features a play/pause button stuck in between them. I do like this idea and to be honest the feel of it as its smaller and more recognisable than the rest but it just feels rushed and added on at the end as if they forgot they needed a dedicated button somewhere on the device. We also have the camera/function button in its usual location on the right.
On the top we now have a dedicated screen lock button centred right in the middle with the headphone jack of to the left side. The speaker has jumped to the bottom of the phone on this one down next to the microphone port, I do not have an issue with this at all and really have no preference as to where to speaker is but it does seem to make sense being located on the bottom due to it being handy when using it as a loudspeaker during phone calls.
The back now features a ‘push to open’ battery cover with a 3.2MP camera with flash. As Blackberry cameras go this one isn’t that bad and features extended depth of field,4x digital zoom, Image stabilisation and geotagging. Though it still features the graininess we have come to expect with Blackberry cameras.
Now I feel I really do need to express this about the phone as I would hate someone to buy the phone and then damage it straight away. While the battery cover is more of a hard and brittle plastic the front surround is a much softer kind of plastic and is very easy to scratch or DENT which I learnt very quickly. So if you do buy this phone I would definitely refrain from using it until you buy screen protectors and a case of some sort with covers this part of the phone or protects it in some manner. I will feature some pictures of the case I have for it and might do a little overview on that product somewhere on the website.
When it comes to the Operating System that’s when things get mad. The new O.S looks absolutely beautiful and really takes advantage of the trackpad. I’m sure though that if you want to know about the O.S specifically you will request from me or search on YouTube for an in-depth look instead of reading it on this review.
Performance:
Well it’s only a curve so it cant be THAT GOOD… or can it?
This phone lets you do literally everything you need to and performs very well. With O.S 7.1 on it you have access to all the current software features Blackberry provide and with most of it the phone copes pretty well with.
Loading videos on YouTube takes a few seconds but once loaded run smoothly with no buffering needed whatsoever
I did notice though that sometimes the phone did seem to temporarily crash when you either tried to do a bunch of things too fast or tried to do too many things at one time.
Conclusion:
A very nice phone to use with the most up to date operating system by Blackberry. Sure it has its faults but for its price it is a really good phone and definitely a bargain especially if you are going to take full advantage of it’s functionality.
Verdict:
Rating- 6/10
Value- 9/10
