Here's the spec:
PP07-MBW PP07-EPS8W PP07-PCIW PP07-IDE6W PP07-BTSW | Product Type: 24pin Motherboard Extension 8pin EPS 12 Volt CPU Extension 6+2pin PCIe Extension 6pin PCIe Extension 4pin Molex to 4x Sata Connectors | Claimed Length: 300mm 300mm 250mm 250mm 300mm |
The W at the end of each model is in reference to the white colour of the braided cables and will vary from colour to colour. The rest of the model number will stay the same regardless.
Design:
24pin Motherboard Extension
The 24pin extension cable does have a 300mm cable as described and with each braided cable being made of a strong high quality cable it can be hard to get the entire cable to bend in the direction you want it to but once it has it wont move. In fact one of the benefits of using THESE individually braided cables is that they are actually more secure than the cables with a combined sleeve.
8pin EPS 12 Volt CPU Extension
| The 4+4 pin extension is also a perfect example of the benefit to using extension cables like this. With the system power delivery design (24pin, 8pin etc.) not being something that will change anytime soon, using this cable means regardless of the future systems you put it in, you can separate the 4pins down to the connector, allowing for the cleanest interior layout in your case. |
6+2pin PCIe Extension
This is where things get a little weird. The 6+2pin is a perfect example of what we were just talking about, who wants that ugly 6+2pin design you get on stock cables, it's just ugly. But while this is far better than stock cables, it was slightly longer than its claimed length. We measured the cable only to be up to around 2cm longer than the 25cm claim. This may however be a blessing in disguise.
6pin PCIe Extension
| We had the same sort of situation with the 6pin PCIe cable with it measuring up to about 2cm longer on the cable portion. For some perfectionists this may be a problem but for me, I see it as an opportunity to make the cable management a little nicer looking. As for quality the 6pin cable is as high quality as the rest with no fraying and no differentiation in colour between cables. |
4pin Molex to 4x Sata Connectors
The Sata extension is also clearly not its claimed length and unfortunately for me it seems to continue on with the awkward 8cm gaps between each connector. I would love to see a cable like this designed purely for connecting multiple hard drives in a collum without having the trouble of having really large gaps between the connectors. Other than this though its up to par with the others.
Generic Qualities
All cables were extremely high quality, stiff and somewhat resistant to bending but when bent maintained their shape perfectly. Arranging the individual cables on each connector was a simple enough task meaning that the aesthetic appeal of the product won't be ruined by an out of place single cable. On top of this all the connectors are black with good solid clips that won't be a problem at all to use. I did find that 24pin to be a little difficult to plug in on the first try but it started to become a easier and also a difficulty that brought me confidence in the quality of the product overall and the security of the connection.
Conclusion:
Overall the PP07 line of extension cables are a solid(literally) choice for anyone who wants to improve the look or airflow for that matter in their system. The firmness of the cables is definitely a bonus point for those who worry about the potential for the cables to moved or knocked around in their case. While SilverStone isn't the only manufacturer to produce this kind of product, their range definitely do leave me with positive feelings and a sense of security. If you can factor them into your budget and understand their main purpose is aesthetics, I can only recommend them.
Verdict:
As the product featured in this review does not fall into the category of main PC components and/or does not have enough competition for an in-depth comparison verdict, the product won't receive a full dissected rating as explained here, we will provide a performance/quality rating purely out of 10 alongside a value rating.
